Crafty Moms - How do you do it?

I need advice from you crafty types. I've always had lots of hobbies: sewing, painting, book making, etc., and I'd love to get back into it. I just can't seem to find the time in my busy days full of motherhood. I know there are SO many other moms out there who are able to make a business out of their creative hobbies. The question is, how do you find the time?! I'd love to hear your suggestions and ideas!

Not a mom but I’m busy.  I have found that its best for me to plan my week with a goal in mind, so that may be for example sew for 1 or 2 hours that week. I put the sewing machine in front of the TV and that motivates me to actually do the sewing. It’s all about the planning for me….

I hear you... It's rough! I love crafts and making stuff, and I actually feel like I've been better at making time for it ( and more efficient) since I had Jonah. I'm a teacher, so during the summer I did crafts during his nap ( like 12-3 ish). Jonah didnt really start having regular naps until he was 10 or 12 months old, and before that it was really tough. I also craft during bath time- Travis has been in charge of that since Jonah was born, and it's usually about an hour in the evening. I also do stuff on weekends- Travis takes Jonah to the playground or grocery store for a few hours. My absolute favorite thing that I do to get in some craft time is switch off hosting crafting times with other moms who ate into crafting- Sunday afternoon, tasty beers, that sort of thing.... Good luck!

During naps, or usually late at night after everyone is asleep. Hence, why I never sleep. :(

What are you thinking of doing?

Wow, Jonah naps for 3 hours?!?!? Must be nice! I'm lucky if I get a 40 minute break most days. Mike often does bath time, but I'm usually wrapping up the dinner dishes during that time. Evenings are usually time for Mike and I to hang out, so I never get anything done. I think I'm going to have to start working on projects after Sam goes to bed though, at least a couple nights a week. I know Mike has projects he'd like to work on too, rather than watch TV.

Right now I'm just focusing on getting my office organized so that I can start projects. I still want to get my bookbinding business started, but for now I just want to get Sam's baby books made. That's enough for now, along with all the little sewing repairs that are constantly accumulating on my sewing table!

Jonah didn't start napping like that until he was taking only 1 nap a day... maybe like 15 or 16 months? Until he was 10ish months he slept 30 mins here, 40 mins there, that sort of thing... Probably you have some extended napping time to look forward to!
